As soon as we hit the ice, we will jump into the plan...If you need a warmup, warmup off-ice. We have a lot to get through the first camp.
Half Moon with passing
Half Moon then pass warmup:
Line up as shown in what looks like a half-moon shape.
Pucks behind the net and then around the blue line.
One person who has a puck to start-takes a shot on net then skates behind the net to grab a puck and passes to whoever he wants in the half-moon. That person who shot and made the shot skates into the NZ and waits for the next person to get there...they begin passing back and forth. This is continuous as eventually the entire tea will be passing.
A coach can pass with Jayce once everyone has taken a shot.
horseshoe full ice (FLOW)
2 lines on one goal line and 2 lines on the opposite side goal line as shown. (You could condense this to 1 line on each GL)
The 1st player in each line skates up ice into the opposite zone...they will receive a puck from that zone and skate to the same side of the rink they started and take a shot on net. So it is a 2 on 0. (MAKE SURE THEY ARE GOING AROUND THE DOT *cone placed on dot* IN THE NZ ON BOTH ENDS AS SHOWN)
Coaches: Put very light pressure on the 2 shooting.
One needs to go hard to the net.
Low and High Shooting
Low and High Shooting
SHORT SIDE:
1st player in line skates with puck...around the hash marks...chip it back off the wall to the next player in line...continue to climb the circle and receive a pass back and go in for a shot.
LONG SIDE:
1st player in line skates with a puck to the NZ (just before the red line) and makes a pass back to the next in line....they then receive the puck back and go in for a shot.
rotate sides after each shot
Breakout Regroup Shooting
The Breakout Regroup Shooting drill helps players work on breakout principles, edge work, and quick release shooting.
Setup
- Player 1, at the top of the circle passes to Player 2 on the goal line.
- Player 1 pivots and opens up at the boards to get a pass back.
- Player 1 passes back to Player 2 for a give & go and jumps to the slot for a one timer shot.
- After player 1 takes a shot, and plays the rebound, they go to the goal line and wait to receive a pass from Player 3, the next player in line.
- The drill is continuous.
Coaching Points
- Keep stick on the ice to give your teammate a passing target.
- Communicate and call for the puck.
- Keep your head up and scan the ice when heading into breakout position along the boards.
2v2 battle drill from the corner
2v2 puck battle in corners (Battle Drill)
4 players line up on one circle as shown.
The coach is in the middle of the two circles and dumps a puck in each corner. It is a race to the puck, and they are playing a 2v2 on their side. *So both circles/sides are going at the same time in THEIR own separate game.
*Be mindful of the goalie and make sure he gets set in between each rep.

Union Small Area Scoring Game
The Union Scoring Small Area Game from Topher Scott is a fun small area game where teams can score on either net. The unique setup of the nets promotes creativity, thinking outside of the box to create time & space and score goals.
Setup
- Coach chips the puck into the zone or passes to one of the players to begin the 3 vs. 3 game.
- Players can score on either net.
- Game can be stopped when a goal is scored, the goalie freezes the puck, or the coach blows the whistle. Keep score!
Coaching Points
- Head up: Players should be aware of where the other team and their teammates are. There will be lots of creative options available if you play with your head up!
- Stick on the ice: It helps the defense angle and remove passing lanes. It helps forwards tell each other where they want a pass.
- Space: Forwards work to create time and space. Defense work to take away time and space.
