Kadri with Delay on Middle Zone Entry
Getting to the middle of the ice on entries is a great way to cause confusion for the defensive players. Kadri does a great job of gaining the middle of the ice and has a nice delay to get the puck to his teammate who is coming in full speed. Great clip for you to show your players.
What to Watch
- Kadri has the intention to gain middle ice as soon as he receives the puck on the zone exit
- After scanning the ice to see his options and the defensive opposition he is facing he recognizes there is no immediate attack option
- Using his edges he decelerates to create a change of speed to create space higher in the zone on the entry opening up a fourth player option coming in late
this is the type of zone entry coach rizzi was talking about yesterday...middle entry...force d to make a decison...read d then make a pass (hockey play)
Jack Hughes Middle Zone Entry with Lane Exchanges
What to Watch
- Both players Bratt NJD (#63) and Hughes NJD (#86) getting off the wall after receiving the puck to create space and options
- Middle zone entry by Hughes NJD (#63) - watch how he cuts the hands of the tracker in the neutral zone
- Lane exchanges by both players as they head up ice to create space and confusion
another middle entry...O player takes two with him as he enters the zone in the middle which opens up lane for winger
Delay on Zone Entry and Using 4th Man by Toronto
In this clip the Toronto Maple Leafs forward uses a delay to set up a goal.
What to Watch
- Puck carrier recognizes that he is out manned by the defensive team so delays to buy time
- Net drivers continues their routes and push the defensive players lower into the zone
- This create high ice available for the 4th player into the zone
- The forward uses a strong control turn that requires the inside and outside edges to make the sharp turn
will cover this more as we get going...wide zone entry (like coach herman was talking about)...player doesn't have much...delays towards the boards (away from defender) to create time and space and to maintain possession...finds trailing teammate
3 on 3 Zone Entry with Net Drive by Montreal
Anytime you attack the zone with 3 players you have to have someone driving hard to the net. This will help push the weak side defender back and open up space high. In this clip Montreal demonstrates this concept on a 3 on 3 rush.
What to Watch
- Montreal's middle player (F2) drives hard to the net and times it well to stay onside.
- The puck carrier (F1) has their head up and scans the ice for options as they enter the zone.
- The weak side forward (F3) fills the space high in the zone behind F2.
- The space is open because F2 drives hard to the net.
wide zone entry that coach herman was talking about with a middle zone net drive which opens space for the trailer...a nice looking triangle right there
