U12 Game Plan Example

3 Habits to Focus on for today's game
- Communication - both on the ice and on the bench
- Defense - work hard to support your partner
- Forwards - work on puck support and switches
Video
This is a pump-up video with some of the best players in the world. Take note of how creative they are with the puck and how much fun they are having. Feel free to watch it before you leave for the rink or on your way to the rink. Let's have fun, play hard and make some plays out there.

Rim The Puck Defensive Zone Face-Off

Topher Scott breaks down the Rim The Puck Defensive Zone Face-Off Play. This set face-off play is a great way to get the puck out of the zone quickly. The key on this play is after the center wins the puck back, the defense must quickly get the puck to rim it along the boards to the far winger who must immediately sprint to get to the puck. From there, the winger should be aware of the pressure by picking their head up. They can chip the puck out of the zone, or gather it and pass to the other breaking winger.
This is going to be our defensive zone face-off play.
3 key points to keep in mind:
- Weak side winger should get to the far side boards as fast as possible and try to chip it out of the zone
- Defenseman with the puck delay slightly if you can to buy time for the winger
- Strong side winger should support the puck and provide an outlet and be ready for a chip
Switch Behind The Net

Right handed player goes behind the net and leaves the puck at the far post. Left handed player picks up puck (on inside) and stuffs it.
Our goal is for each forward line to try a switch at least once in the game this weekend.
2 things to keep in mind:
- Don't give up a scoring opportunity just to run a switch, if you have a chance take it
- Communicate with your teammates (either verbally or non-verbally) when you are going to run the switch
