This video demonstrates how adding movement to the puck, such as blade manipulation and pulling the puck closer to the body, creates deception and enhances wrist shot effectiveness against defenders and goalies.

Coaching Points:

  • Blade Manipulation for Deception:

    • Use the blade to cup and open the puck, mimicking a passing motion before transitioning into a wrist shot.
    • Practice turning and cupping the blade while keeping the puck on the stick to develop smoother movements.
  • Toe Drag Technique:

    • Start the puck on the toe of the blade, pull it closer to your body, and release a quick wrist shot.
    • Transfer weight from the back foot to the front foot as you pull the puck in for added power and accuracy.
  • Deceptive Movements Against Defenders:

    • Use puck movement to draw the defender’s stick toward the puck, then quickly shift the puck to another angle for the shot.
    • Aim to shoot through or around the defender's legs or stick for additional scoring opportunities.
  • Impact on Goalie Adjustment:

    • Moving the puck before shooting forces goalies to adjust their positioning, opening up new shooting angles.
    • Practice pulling the puck into the shooting box while maintaining control for a fast release.
  • Combining Movement and Accuracy:

    • As puck manipulation becomes consistent, focus on aiming for specific corners of the net to increase precision.
    • Experiment with different movement techniques and shooting angles to develop a versatile and deceptive wrist shot.

This approach allows players to incorporate advanced techniques into their wrist shots, making them more unpredictable and challenging for opponents.
