Coaching Points:

  • Hand and Stick Positioning:

    • Always address the puck with your stick and hands in front of your body to prepare for receiving the pass.
    • Ensure the stick blade is angled appropriately to cradle the puck effectively.
  • Body Adjustment:

    • Shift your body and feet to align with the puck’s angle, ensuring you’re in an optimal shooting position.
    • Open your hips and turn your feet as needed to adjust to off-angle passes, keeping control of the puck.
  • Weight Transfer:

    • Transfer weight from your back foot to your front foot as you release the puck to generate power.
    • Push on your bottom hand while driving your shoulders toward the net for a strong and accurate shot.
  • Quick Puck Control:

    • Avoid letting the puck drift too far from your body after reception; keep it in the shooting box for immediate release.
    • Cradle the puck and immediately bring your head up to locate your target before shooting.
  • Practise Different Angles:

    • Work on receiving vertical passes from various angles to build comfort and consistency in game scenarios.
    • Start slow and increase speed as you become more proficient with quick receptions and releases.

These techniques improve your ability to capitalize on vertical passes in dynamic game situations, making your wrist shot a more versatile scoring tool.
