Drill Setup:
- 3/4 zone game. One team on offense (O) the other on defense (X) to start.
- The O's are trying to score. The X's are trying to get the puck and pass it to their line (break it out).
- Once X's are able to breakout, those 3 X's who where playing defense are done and 3 new X's come in on offense.
- The 3 O's that where just on offense stay in and now are the new defenders.
- Once the game gets moving your rotation is offense, defense, out.
Drill Purpose:
- For checking camp, the purpose of this game is give players more a realistic look at both offensive and defensive sides of the puck to allow players to apply skills learned. In each rep players will be on the offensive side and then the defensive side of the puck. From a checking and body contact point of view this will change how they use their bodies and put them in different situations organically. By having the game change on the fly itself you are making it more interactive and adding more thinking and how to the game.
Variations:
- There are a variety of ways to change this game. Can make it full zone 4 v 4. Can give1 team an advantage (3 v 2, 4 v 3). If a man advantage when changing a player would have to leave or be added on the change from opposing team to get desired number.
- Can add in offensive concepts such as a criss cross or pass behind the net before the offensive team can shoot.
