Puck Pursuit Tips For Younger Ages

https://vimeo.com/586795118

In the video above, Alyssa Gagliardi gives coaches tips on how they can make the learning environment fun and relatable for younger age levels. Instead of trying to teach systems to beginner players, coaches can help players learn the game by teaching give & goes and puck pursuit tips. This example uses animals as a forechecking example that gives players a better idea of forechecking and support. Details:

  • F1 is the Cheetah: The first player on the puck, trying to get to the puck as fast as possible.
  • F2 is the Alligator: The second player who is ready to chomp on the puck coming up the boards.
  • F3 is the Hawk: The third player in the zone is the Hawk, carefully scanning the play and ready to jump down to support if needed.

Also heard the variant

“Dog” “Fox” “Hawk”

First kid goes in barking like a dog.

This is fantastic! I wish there was a defensive variant. Thanks Coach!
