Get Full Access

This drill focuses on punch jams and cutbacks, enabling players to quickly change direction, protect the puck, and create space for effective passing and shooting under pressure.

Coaching Points:

  1. Stay on the Balls of Feet: Keep weight on the balls of your feet to maintain balance and control during cutbacks and punch jams.
  2. Keep Hands in Front: Position hands slightly ahead to facilitate quick puck cradling and immediate shots or passes.
  3. Use Small, Controlled Steps: Take short, rapid steps for effective foot control, minimizing the risk of overextending and allowing for quick directional changes.
  4. Practice Edge Control: Focus on inside and outside edge control to ensure smooth transitions and maintain speed during cutbacks.
  5. Puck Positioning: When cutting or pivoting, keep the puck on the outside, away from defenders, while using quick movements to protect the puck.
  6. Add Deception: Use head and shoulder fakes to mislead defenders, creating space for shots or setting up teammates effectively.

This drill is ideal for building agility, puck protection skills, and the ability to react swiftly to game situations.
