Wilkie Rim's, shared by Brad Flynn, helps teams practice breaking out under pressure, rim puck recovery on walls for wingers, defensive pinching, and ends with a 3 on 2.
Setup
- Coach is setup on the half wall with pucks.
- 3 forwards are setup on the top of the circles.
- A defensemen in the slot, with 2 additional defensemen at the point.
- On the whistle, coach passes to the closest forward, who takes a quick shot on net.
- After the shot, the coach rims the pucks along the boards. The forward protects the puck on the rim and keeps head up to be aware of the defenseman at the point.
- This starts a 3 on 2. Teams can also encourage the defenseman who is in the zone to join the rush so it is a 4 on 2.
Coaching Points
- Wingers need to keep head up to understand what the defenseman is doing at the point (are they pinching, is there time & space)?
- Forwards need to support the puck carrier on the breakout.
- The offensive team should work to gain middle ice with the puck to give themselves the most amount of options to pass or shoot.
- Defenseman should keep their sticks on the ice to block passing lanes and keep the puck to the outside of the ice.
Helpful for our team. Winger getting to the wall and D pinching to battle and pressure the wing.
