This video explains the progression of a V-Quick Start, a fundamental skating skill for forwards and defence men, with a focus on proper body positioning, foot placement, and increasing explosiveness through practice.

Coaching Points:

Proper Body Position: Maintain a strong hockey stance with shoulders over knees, knees over toes, and weight on the balls of your feet.
Open Your Feet: At the start, open your foot fully to push off the ball of your foot, ensuring that your feet are angled outward in a V shape.
Snap the Toe: After each push, snap your toe to get your heel up, generating quick steps and maintaining speed.
Avoid Lifting Up: Focus on coming out in the skating direction rather than popping up vertically, which wastes time and energy.
Use Progressions: Start with simple drills to get players used to snapping their toes, then add tools like sticks on the ice to encourage quick steps.
