This drill is extremely difficult for the defense and is designed to be that way. The objective is to simulate a turnover in the neutral zone where the defense has to make a quick adjustment to the oncoming forwards. it is highly recommended to understand the animation as well becuase the diagram is a bit messy. To start the drill, D1 skates out towards center ice and then swings back to receive a puck from the next defense in line. D1 then goes in for a shot. After the shot, D1 receives a pass from the last forward in line (the forward who just came down 1 on 1 from the other line) and skates up ice to give F1 a cross ice pass. F1 needs to time their break so they are receiving the pass from D1 just before the red line. D1 then tries to get their heels outside the blue line before taking on F1 from the other side in a 1 on 1 situation. After F1 takes the shot they go to the end of the line and they are now passing to the defensive player in the next repetition.
