This is a drill for defense to work on retrieving loose pucks going back towards your own net. The goal is to:
- retrieve the puck quickly by using your feet to retrieve the puck
- once you have possession then get your shoulders and eyes facing up ice as quickly as possible
- pull the puck laterally with one big move
- make a strong pass up the ice on your forehand
The drill works as follows:
- the first player starts at the blue line and throws a puck towards the redline, just enough to simulate a loose puck in the neutral zone
- the player explodes to the puck to retrieve it and pivots to face up ice as quickly as possible
- at the same time thy pull the puck to the outside and start heading up ice
- then they make a hard pass to the next player in line
