The Shot Tip 2 on 0 drill shared by Brad Flynn works on point shots, net front tips, breakouts, regroups, and transitions into a 2 on 0 rush.
Setup
- Can be done out of both ends of the ice.
- Forwards in the corners, defense at the points.
- On the whistle, F1 passes a puck to the defenseman at the point, who quickly passes to the other defenseman at the point and they take a quick shot on net.
- F1 should be time properly and be in front of the net for a tip, deflection, and/or screen.
- After the shot F2 jumps off the boards with the puck and works to get up ice with F1.
- They pass the puck to the original defenders, who go D to D and regroup up ice with F1 and F2.
- F1 and F2 continue to the net 2 on 0.
Coaching Points
- All players should keep their head up and communicate with their teammates.
- All players without the puck should keep their sticks on the ice and present the puck carrier with a target where they would like the puck.
- Work to regroup and transition up ice with speed.
Variations
- Can have the forwards on the 2 on 0 rush work on various zone entry concepts (driving the net, puck carrier curls along boards, etc).
- Can have a coach give token pressure on the 2 on 0 rush so the forwards need to keep their head up and make decisions.
- Can have the 2 defenseman join the rush.
