HaH - Peripheral Vision Training

Get Full Access

This video provides simple drills to improve hand-eye coordination and peripheral vision using a tennis ball and wall, emphasizing keeping eyes up and hands ready for game-like actions.

Coaching Points:

  1. Peripheral Vision: Maintain focus straight ahead while using your peripheral vision to track the ball, improving awareness during gameplay.

  2. Hand Positioning: Keep your hands in a ready position, ensuring quick control and the ability to make a play off the catch.

  3. Eyes Up: Avoid looking directly at the ball; instead, rely on peripheral tracking to simulate in-game situations where vision is needed elsewhere.

  4. Control and React: Start by comfortably passing the ball off the wall, progressing to stopping and controlling it as it bounces unpredictably.

  5. Game Simulation: Practice bringing the ball into a ready position (off the hip) to mimic preparing for a pass, shot, or other play.

  6. Increase Difficulty: Gradually make the drill harder by adding more bounce or faster passes to challenge coordination and reaction time.

These drills help athletes improve spatial awareness, reaction time, and their ability to process peripheral stimuli, all crucial for high-performance play.
