HaH - Off-Ice Slap Shot

Get Full Access

This video focuses on perfecting the off-ice slap shot technique by emphasizing proper hand placement, blade positioning, and body mechanics to maximize power and accuracy.

Coaching Points:

  1. Hand Positioning:

    • Lower the bottom hand about two glove lengths for better leverage and power.
    • Keep arms straight during the wind-up to ensure a clean and controlled follow-through.
  2. Blade Positioning:

    • Keep the blade cupped throughout the motion to avoid chopping the puck and to generate consistent power.
    • Strike the puck with the strong part of the blade (heel to middle) for optimal control and accuracy.
  3. Puck Placement:

    • Position the puck between your feet to maintain balance and control.
    • Aim to strike slightly behind the puck to compress the stick for added flex and power.
  4. Weight Transfer:

    • Transfer weight from the back foot to the front foot while bending your knees to generate power.
    • Ensure the front foot is aligned with the net to simulate game scenarios.
  5. Follow-Through:

    • Drive your shoulders toward the net and maintain a complete follow-through for maximum shot efficiency.
    • Keep your head up, using peripheral vision to track the puck and maintain awareness of your target.
  6. Progression:

    • Start by practicing stationary technique and gradually add motion to simulate game-like scenarios.
    • Incorporate roller blades to enhance movement and translate skills effectively to on-ice play.
