HaH - Deflections with In Tight Shots

Get Full Access

This video demonstrates how to practise deflections and in-tight shots using a curb to simulate game-like puck rebounds, emphasizing hand-eye coordination, proper blade usage, and readiness for follow-up plays.

Coaching Points:

  1. Hand Positioning: Keep hands away from your body, maintaining a comfortable and reactive position to adjust to incoming pucks.

  2. Blade Usage: Use the fattest part of your blade (heel to mid-blade) for consistent contact, ensuring control during deflections.

  3. Watch the Puck: Focus on watching the puck or ball all the way into your blade to improve precision and reaction time.

  4. Practice Forehand and Backhand: Alternate between forehand and backhand deflections to simulate real-game scenarios where quick adaptability is crucial.

  5. Rebound Awareness: Prepare for secondary plays by incorporating extra pucks, practising forehand-to-backhand and backhand-to-forehand transitions for follow-up shots.

  6. Soft Hands: Maintain a soft touch when deflecting or batting down pucks, allowing for better control and accuracy.

  7. Game Simulation: Turn the net toward a curb or similar surface, adjusting your distance to replicate game-like deflection angles and rebound scenarios.
