HaH - Backdoor Shots on Forehand

Get Full Access

This video focuses on executing forehand backdoor one-timers near the net, emphasizing timing, proper hand positioning, and driving the puck quickly on goal without a full wind-up.

Coaching Points:

  1. Proper Hand Positioning: Keep your top hand extended and firm, avoiding pulling it into your body to prevent the blade from opening up and misdirecting the puck.

  2. Drive Through the Shot: Push firmly on the bottom hand while driving your shooting-side shoulder toward the net for stability and accuracy.

  3. Timing is Key: Step into the shot with your inside foot (e.g., left foot for a left-handed shot) as the puck makes contact with your stick to generate momentum and balance.

  4. Adjust to Pass Quality: If the pass is off-target, control it by cushioning the puck, kicking it to your stick if needed, and quickly resetting for the shot.

  5. Focus on Placement Over Power: Prioritize placing the puck on the open side of the net rather than trying to take the hardest shot, especially when the goalie is sliding across.

  6. Simulate Game Situations: Practice with varied speeds and angles of passes, ensuring readiness for in-game scenarios where quick decision-making is crucial.

  7. Incorporate Deception: Add fake passes or head fakes to sell the play before receiving the pass and shooting to keep the goalie and defenders guessing.
