HaH - 2-1 Fake Pass to Shot

Get Full Access

This video teaches players how to use subtle fakes—utilizing their eyes, shoulders, and weight transfer—to create scoring opportunities in 2-on-1 situations by misdirecting defenders and goalies before taking a quick shot.

Coaching Points:

  1. Eyes, Shoulders, and Hands for Deception: Use your eyes, shoulder movements, and hand positioning to sell a pass or fake shot, subtly shifting the defender’s or goalie’s weight to open up shooting lanes.

  2. Puck Placement: Keep the puck in a position where you can easily shoot, fake, or pass, rather than directly in front of your body, to maximize your offensive options.

  3. Stationary Drills First: Begin stationary by faking with your eyes and hands, then quickly transitioning into a shot to build comfort with the motion and timing.

  4. Weight Transfer for Angle Changes: Practice transferring your weight and pulling the puck across your body to change the shot angle, creating openings even in tight spaces.

  5. Game-like Practice: Incorporate movement and situational awareness into drills to simulate 2-on-1 scenarios, focusing on quick releases and decision-making.

  6. Train Both Sides: Ensure you practice these techniques on both forehand and backhand sides to remain effective regardless of positioning or puck location on the ice.
