Lesson 1 - Video 2 - Hand and Arm Positioning
This video focuses on proper blade positioning and puck placement for wrist shots, emphasizing cupping the blade, utilizing the full blade surface, and maintaining the puck in the ideal shooting box for effective and controlled shots.
Coaching Points for Blade of Stick & Puck Placement:
-
Blade Cupping Technique:
- On the forehand, rotate the top hand so the knuckles face the ice to cup the blade over the puck.
- On the backhand, roll the knuckles upward to cup the blade properly.
-
Avoid Heel-Only Use:
- Keep the top hand elevated to ensure the blade stays flat on the ice, preventing reliance solely on the blade's heel.
- Use the entire blade, from heel to toe, for better control during stickhandling and shooting.
-
Puck Placement on Blade:
- Begin the puck on the heel or middle of the blade for wrist shots.
- Allow the puck to roll toward the toe during the release for a controlled and powerful shot.
-
Shooting Box Concept:
- Maintain the puck within an imaginary box beside or in front of the body, avoiding shots that drag too far behind or extend too far outward.
- This placement enhances quickness and stick flex during the shot.
-
Release Zones:
- Practice shooting from both beside the body and in front, as game scenarios often require quick adjustments to puck positioning.
-
Minimize Drag:
- Avoid dragging the puck excessively behind the body, which slows the shot and reduces efficiency.
- Aim for a quick, compact motion to optimize shot speed and accuracy.
