Cross-fire passing is a fun possession game where each team is working to pass the puck from one side of the box to the other.
Setup
- Coach creates a box with cones or tires. The smaller the box, the harder it will be for your players since there is less space.
- Each team has 2 players in the middle of the box and 2 players on the outside of the box that are across from each other.
- On the whistle, the two teams battle for puck possession, the goal is for each team to move the puck from one side of the box to the other side of the box.
- Scoring: Teams are awarded a point if they pass from one end of the box to one player in the middle, to the other player outside of the box. Teams are awarded two points if both players inside the box touch the puck before getting to the other side.
Coaching Points
- Offense: Players should work on give & go's. Players without the puck should keep their sticks on the ice and jump to open space and be an outlet for the puck carrier.
- Defense: Keep sticks on the ice to block passing lanes and angle players to the outside.
Variations
- Can make the box smaller or larger. The smaller the box, the harder it is since there is less space.
- Can make the game 2v2 as shown or do 3v3 if the box is larger.
