If you missed the others, find them here:
Day 1 - Keeping Your Head Up When Shooting
Day 2 - Proper Hand and Stick Positioning
Day 3 - Backhand Shots
Day 4 - Quick Release Shots
Today's drill focuses on receiving passes and quickly releasing accurate shots by emphasizing proper hand positioning, eye focus, and follow-through mechanics.
Coaching Points:
- Set Hands for Quick Release: Ensure hands are positioned away from the body to adjust for passes and prepare for a quick shot.
- Eyes Up Immediately: Upon receiving the pass, lift your eyes to locate the target without staring directly at it, relying on peripheral vision.
- Quickly Address the Puck: Catch the pass, settle the puck quickly, and release the shot with minimal delay.
- Follow Through with Bottom Hand: Drive the bottom hand toward the intended target to guide the shot accurately.
- Adapt to Imperfect Passes: Practise handling awkward passes by using your feet, backhand, or forehand to control the puck and still deliver an effective shot.
- Add Speed Gradually: Start slowly to perfect technique, then increase speed and intensity as confidence improves.
