Welcome to Day 3 of 5 Days to a More Accurate Shot!
If you missed the others, find them here:
Day 1 - Keeping Your Head Up When Shooting
Day 2 - Proper Hand and Stick Positioning
Today's video focuses on improving the accuracy and power of backhand shots, emphasizing proper technique, hand positioning, and follow-through to target specific areas of the net.
Coaching Points:
-
Pull with Bottom Hand: Unlike forehand shots, use your bottom hand to pull the stick and generate power on the backhand shot.
-
Adjust Hand Position: Slide your bottom hand slightly down the stick (about one glove length) to gain more leverage and control during the shot.
-
Use Your Legs: Drive your inside leg across your body as you shoot to add power and improve stability.
-
Blade Control: Keep the blade cupped and avoid opening it too early to maintain accuracy and power. Let the blade naturally open during the follow-through.
-
Focus on Quadrants: Aim for general areas of the net (quadrants) rather than pinpoint accuracy, gradually improving precision as you practice.
-
Practice Progression: Start with slow, stationary shots to refine technique, then progress to shots off passes or stickhandles for game-like scenarios.
-
Keep Your Head Up: Maintain awareness of your target by keeping your head up and eyes on the net during the shot.
