Objective
This engaging small area game encourages players to think creatively, communicate effectively, and adapt quickly on both offense and defense. With the ability to score on multiple nets, players are constantly challenged to create opportunities, transition effectively, and defend dynamically.
Game Setup
- Set up two nets in a one of the zones, both facing the neutral zone
- The game is played 3-on-3 with two coaches acting as "bumpers" who facilitate puck exchanges. Coaches can be swapped out for players to increase participation.
- The coach starts the game by dumping a puck in for a 50/50 battle.
- Whichever team gains possession must pass to a coach before they can transition to offense and attack.
Rules
- Players can score on either net, adding a layer of strategy and unpredictability to the game.
- All turnovers require a pass to a coach before transitioning to offense.
- Coaches or "bumpers" always pass the puck back to the team that gave it to them, encouraging puck movement, working to get open and quick decision-making.
- Defensive players must stay alert, communicate effectively, and close open space to prevent scoring opportunities on multiple fronts.
Coaching Points
- Encourage players to think quickly and adapt to offensive and defensive situations.
- Focus on strong communication, especially on defense, to cover both nets and anticipate plays.
- Reinforce quick transitions, using the coaches to reset and exploit scoring opportunities.
Variations
- Replace the coaches with players waiting for their turn to keep everyone engaged.
- Adjust the size of the playing area and play 2-on-2 for younger players or smaller groups.
- Flip both nets in the same direction (either backward or normal) for safety or to simplify the game.
- Add more bumpers or additional nets to increase complexity and engagement.
