Punch Jam by Coyotes Forward Creates Space

Punch Jams are a great way to create space. When done well it causes the defender to expect a cutback as you will see in this clip. This is a great skill to work on with young players and add this skill to their toolbox.

What to Watch

• As the puck carrier comes up the wall with the defender on his hip he fakes the cutback.
• He uses his outside edge of the left skate and inside edge of the right skate and gets the shoulders and hips pointing towards the cutback.
• He quickly releases out of the cutback.
• Look how much space and separation is created when the defender completely bites on the cutback.
