2-1-2 Forecheck with F3 High by Buffalo Sabres

https://vimeo.com/888024614

The goal of an offensive zone forecheck is to create a turnover and gain possession of the puck.  A simple 2-1-2 forecheck is a system that is commonly used across all ages and levels. In this clip you will see a well executed 2-1-2 forecheck by the Buffalo Sabres that allows them to keep the puck inside the offensive zone.

What to Watch

  • F1 pressures the puck hard and creates a 50/50 puck through hard work.
  • F2 joins the 50/50 puck battle down low.
  • F3 is high in the zone (just inside top of the circles) on the strong side where there is a pocket of space.
  • When the puck is rimmed to the weak side the defense pinches down on the winger.
  • F3 covers for the pinching defense and is able to keep the puck inside the zone.
